IB Connections

Saying Hello Is the First Step...

Meeting new people and making friends can be really difficult if you are the new kid on the block. Saying "Hi," to break the ice is often the first step. So how can we connect with others around us if we don't speak the same language? Take the first step. Use the links below to learn how to say hello in different languages. Then use Wordle to create a Word Cloud of the new words you learn. The key to using Wordle is to include a variety of many different words.  The more you use the word, the bigger it will be in your word cloud.

A twist on the first step: Think about the IB Profiles.  Which one or few best describe you? Create a Wordle full of the words that you think best describe your personal profile.  Challenge yourself by finding and including your describing words in different languages!

The Giving Tree

Think about the story.  Why do you think Shel Silverstein wrote this story? How do you feel about the tree? How do you feel about the boy? What makes you happy?  What do you give to others? What is a random act of kindness?

You can use Tux Paint to draw a picture and write a sentence or two about something you give or do for others.

Fairy Tales Across Cultures

Finding similarities and differences when reading fairy tales, folklore and fables from around the world is fun, encourages us to focus on the details, and it helps us hone our critical thinking skills.  Click on one of the links below. Compare and contrast any 2 Trickster Tales or Cinderella Stories.  Create a Venn Diagram in Microsoft Word, or see me with your own creative way to compare and contrast the stories.
