February 4, 2013

This is a busy week! In language arts the students are working on verbs, persuasive letters to King George, and group projects linked to Woods Runner.  Group projects will be completed in school and are due on Friday, February 15.  We will begin presenting them the following week upon returning to school.  The rubric/instructions for the letter to King George III is posted below.  The students reread in the SS text and completed their bubble maps in class this morning.  Letters are due Monday, February 11.  In math we are working on writing algebraic expressions for word problems and solving when given the value of a variable.

Dear King George III
Assignment:   Write a persuasive letter to King George III of England.
Objective:  You are colonist writing a letter to King George in 1766 from the point of view of a colonist.  You are trying to persuade King George III to eliminate the unfair taxes imposed on the colonists.  You must include in detail and show your understanding of the following points:
A.    The Sugar Act           p. 280 in social studies textbook
B.     The Stamp Act          p. 281 in social studies textbook
C.     Intolerable Acts         p. 289 in social studies textbook
D.    No Taxation without Representation          p. 281-282 in social studies textbook
Begin with an outline or bubble map identifying your key points.  Then write the rough draft SKIPPING LINES!   Do this so that you have room to edit (capitalization, spelling, punctuation) and revise (change sentences, add sentences and words.) The letter must be 4 paragraphs long and each sentence must begin with a different beginning.  Use transition words and great vocabulary to enhance your writing.
Good luck, the fate of your fellow colonists depends on you and your ability to persuade King George III to eliminate the unfair taxes!
