The students were on fire today! They are working in groups to demonstrate what they have learned about ecosystems and food webs to create their own imaginary ecosystems.  The requirements:

You must create/invent at least...

-2 producers

-2 primary consumers- animal that eats plants-Herbivore

-2 secondary consumers- animal that eats other animals- carnivore

-1 tertiary consumer- top dog- top animal of the food chain

- 1 decomposer- Break down dead plant and animal matter to return nutrients to the soil

-A description of the habitat- soil, climate, what does it look like

-Food web- How is energy transferred through the ecosystem

- There must be a written description of each organism in your food web that includes information about what it eats and possible predators.

Running Out of Time keeps getting better and better.  The students grown when we finish reading the chapter for the day and ask to read more...I love when that happens!  Jessie has made her way out of Clifton and is on her way to finding Miles Neely, the environmentalist who can possibly help the children who are sick with diptheria.  Tonight, the students will reflect on Jessie's reaction to the modern teenagers and what this tells us about how our culture has changed over time.   In math, we are working on solving multi-step word problems that involve adding and subtracting mixed numbers.
