January 7, 2012

The first full week after Winter Break is in full swing!  The students did a great job coming back focused and ready to learn.  In language arts, we had a dictionary race to define new vocabulary words and began pre-reading activities for Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen.  We are crossing the curriculum and using what we learned  in social studies about the Road to the Revolution to enhance our learning and make connections. The students will be working in small groups, with partners, and independently to read this story in class.  In math, we are investigating dividing decimals.  The students are playing a game called Westward Bound in which they are able to travel 5 miles for each basic problem solved and 10 miles for word problems.  The students who travel the farthest will be our class winners.  In Science, we are going to focus on human body systems.
