January 4, 2012

The students started off the new year with a bang!  They are working hard and producing great things. In Language Arts we are working on making inferences and drawing conclusions from what we read.  Percy and his friends have left Camp Half-Blood on their quest to find Zeus's lightning bolt, and the students continue to inquire and seek their own knowledge about the ancient Greeks and their way of life.  New vocabulary was defined today, and there will be a quiz on the words next Friday, January 13. (The list is attached below.) In math, the students are wrapping up their learning of fraction concepts and skills.  Currently we are working on solving real world problems that include adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. There will be a Unit Post-test on Thursday, January 12.  In Science the students are studying the Water Cycle. There will be a short quiz on Friday, January 6.  All needed information and notes can be found in the students' science notebooks.

A reminder that the DC field trip is right around the corner!  The cost of the trip is $290.00 per person.  Please send in a payment or the total amount when you are able.  There will be an important meeting for all interested chaperones on Wednesday, January 25 at 5:15 in Mr. Butler's room.
